Performance, Specs, and Capability
The 2025 Subaru Ascent comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for balanced handling and improved traction. Under the hood, a 2.4-liter DOHC turbocharged engine delivers 260 horsepower and uses direct injection for added efficiency.
A standard Lineartronic CVT complements the drivetrain for smooth, responsive performance. With 8.7 inches of ground clearance and X-MODE with Hill Descent Control, the Ascent is built to handle a variety of road and trail conditions confidently.
For towing, the Ascent leads Subaru’s lineup with a maximum capacity of 5,000 pounds. It includes a Class III trailer hitch and generates up to 277 lb-ft of torque—giving you the strength to pull with ease.
Interior
The 2025 Subaru Ascent features the largest interior Subaru has ever offered, with 153.2 cubic feet of passenger space and seating for seven or eight. The seven-passenger layout includes second-row captain’s chairs, while the eight-passenger version offers a bench seat. Wide rear door openings and up to 75.6 cubic feet of cargo space—plus additional underfloor storage—make it easy to load up family, friends, and gear for any adventure.
Comfort and convenience are top priorities, with 19 cup holders and an available 54-inch power tilt and sliding panoramic moonroof. Select trims also offer the Harman Kardon Quantum Logic Surround Sound system, which includes 14 speakers and a high-performance 8-channel Class-D amplifier delivering 792 watts of rich, immersive sound.
Exterior
Outside, the 2025 Ascent is impressive with its black and chrome front grille and geometric wheel design. It looks modern, is contoured to offer improved aerodynamics, and features a power rear gate that’s not standard on all trims.
Trim-specific color and detailing are extensive. The Bronze Edition is also introduced this year with its bronze-colored wheels and accents both inside and out. The Onyx Edition Touring brings with it a slick exterior design with black-finished wheels.
Safety and Technology
Staying safe in your crossover is easier to do thanks to the standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which includes Pre-Collision Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control. The available Automatic Emergency Steering system provides dramatic steering support. Other key features of this crossover include the blind spot detection system, cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking. There's also an available smart rearview mirror for enhanced rear visibility.
Drivers also benefit from the full SUBARU STARLINK safety and security array of services, including advanced collision notification and SOS emergency assistance to get roadside help through an app interface.
Inside, drivers have the Subaru Driver Focus Distraction Mitigation System, designed to help keep drivers focused on the road. It can recognize up to five different drivers to remember their climate preferences, outside mirror position, and seat position while also learning to detect distraction or drowsy driving. Other excellent features include Cabin Connect, which lets you push a button to send your voice to the rear speakers so you don’t have to turn your head to communicate.
Premium
The 2025 Ascent Premium offers standard driver safety features, including steering-responsive LED headlights with high beam assist, EyeSight Driver Assist with Wide-Angle Mono Camera viewing and reverse automatic braking. This model includes features like keyless access with a push-button start and a power rear gate. Drivers benefit from a leather-wrapped steering wheel, USB-A and USB-C connectivity, raised roof rails, and an 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system. This vehicle is offered in both the 7-passenger and 8-passenger configurations.
Onyx Edition
The 2025 Subaru Ascent’s Onyx Edition has a few extra elements that start with a statement look. It has 20-inch alloy wheels with a stunning black finish. Inside, you benefit from Subaru StarTex, a water repellent material. This trim also provides black accent trims throughout the cabin and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with bright green stitching.
Available in the 7-seater configuration, this model offers dual-function X-MODE along with LED fog lights and a panoramic power moonroof. The retractable cargo cover and heated steering wheel are nice upgrades from the Premium trim.
Limited
The Ascent Limited takes the Premium trim to another level by building in more advanced safety features, including the DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System, auto-dimming with HomeLink, and a set of USB-A input and charge ports in the third row to keep everyone charged and ready to go. The Harmon Kardon premium audio system is also on board.
Available in both the 7 and 8-seater configurations, the Limited offers other key features, including lower door cladding with chrome access and power-folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals. The 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels with a dark gray machine finish are a modern touch of elegance.
Bronze Edition
The Bronze Edition brings with it additions to the Limited trim. It’s also available only as a 7-seater design, but it offers exclusive bronze finishes to the side cladding and the front intake cover. It also has 20-inch alloy wheels with bronze features.
The interior upgrades to black StarTex water repellent material for more of an everyday vehicle that can handle the grime of busy families. Still, the heated leather-wrapped steering wheel with bronze stitching helps elevate the look and feel of this trim option.
Touring
The Touring edition gives drivers all of the same features as the Limited, including the 7-seater configuration and then more. It has a unique woodgrain pattern accent trim throughout it with a matte finish. The Java Brown perforated Nappa leather-trimmed upholstery with tan stitching is attention-grabbing and sophisticated.
There are some additional operational benefits as well, including a three-mode ventilated driver and front passenger seat as standard and rain-sensing wipers. The Touring also offers a smart rearview mirror.
Onyx Edition Touring
For those drivers looking for extreme elegance, the Onyx Edition Touring will find it. It has all of the same features and layout as the Touring model. It then adds 20-inch alloy wheels.
With this upgrade comes Nappa leather-appointed seats with power and ventilated front seats. The black seats have bright silver stitching. This vehicle, also solely available as the 7-seat configuration, has a high-grade leather-wrapped heated steering wheel in black with green stitching.
